When the Pink Map was the dream of a nation, the Scientific Expeditions to Africa enabled a strong territorial knowledge, both of nature and its people. The inspiring character of Serpa Pinto brought us, Portuguese people, a true spirit of adventure over land. His travel drawings pictured the unknown. The fauna, flora and peoples’ experiences seen through the heart of a 19th century Portuguese explorer who sought to bond with each piece of land traveled.
