Wall Preparation
1. Ensure that the wall is level, clean, smooth, and completely dry.
2. To smooth an existing shower wall during renovation, such as in the case of old ceramic tiles, the joints must first be filled with a smoothing compound. We recommend applying the ready-to-use smoothing compound MAPEI Planiprep 4 LVT or MAPEI Planiprep Contract. This cementitious smoothing compound has been specially developed for use in wet areas and on non-absorbent substrates. Other brands are available on the market – seek specialized advice at your local hardware store.
Adhesive Application
3. Inspect the wall, check the material, and decide where to start.
4. Apply MAPEI Ultrabond Eco Décor Wet Adhesive to the wall surface using a suitable smooth spatula. This is a special adhesive for decorative wall coverings in glass fibre and vinyl in wet areas.
Wall Covering Installation
5. Position and place the printed and dry wallpaper panels side by side without overlapping, using a wallpaper spatula and aligning the graphics perfectly.
6. Close the seams with the spatula in a vertical direction and remove any excess adhesive, taking care not to damage the printed graphics. Any small halos caused by the presence of adhesive will later be covered with the protective coating in the following steps.
7. Remove excess panels using a sharp spatula. Always move the spatula while keeping the blade in cutting motion.
Application of Waterproof Protective Layer
8. Approximately two hours after installing the wallpaper, apply a cross-coat of the two-component protective finish MAPEI Mapecoat Décor Protection with a short-pile roller. The product must be used within two hours after mixing.
Use a waterproof silicone sealant to finish all corners and seams.
Cleaning and Maintenance
9. After the protective resin has been applied and the wall covering is completely dry, it can be cleaned with mild soap. For more persistent dirt, similar cleaning solvents can be used. Do not use acids, as they may compromise the protective layer applied in step 8.
